Children learn to read, write and spell by teaching them the alphabetical code. This is the sounds that the letters of the alphabet make.
Once they understand and can break the code, they can start blending known sounds together to make words.
For example, once they know the sounds c a and t they can read cat! And so on.
Simple, effective, (definitely old fashioned!) and the only way that children with learning difficulties will learn to read and write and spell effectively.
Ongoing assessment is critical to the success of Sallyteach programs and ensures your child’s progress is constantly being monitored for effectiveness and modified accordingly.
Regular communication with parents, classroom teachers, specialists and the school community helps children realise that we are all working together to move them forward in their literacy journey.
What resources we use
Sally uses resources from a number of proven and internationally renown Reading, Writing and Spelling programs.
These include:
• Alpha to Omega (Orton Gillingham),
• Phonics international (Debbie Hepplewhite U.K.),
• Agility with Sound (Betsy Sewell N.Z.),
• M.S.L. (Multi Sensory Learning Australia)
• Nessy Read and Write (UK),
• Word Shark (UK) and
• Stepsweb (NZ).
High quality resources are provided for parents to take home and enjoy with their children and these include decodable readers, literacy games and computer programs. This allows for literacy skills taught during weekly session/s to be reinforced at home, which is essential.
Which program or combination of programs, activities and readers Sally chooses for your child will depend on what suits them best, what will be most effective in building their skills and what they will most enjoy.
